Hey I'm Miguel Betegón, but you can call me Bete, /'be.te/.
Product Software Engineer
Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering
I’m a Founding Software Engineer @ Rely, a bootstrapped AI startup where I’ve worked for 6+ years (still going). I’m a generalist who loves product, knows why shipping speed matters, and have been building (and leading) deep tech software since AI was called machine learning (ML).
Starting with just the two founders and myself six years ago, our team has now expanded to over 25 people. I’m resourceful (or scrappy), adept at engineering solutions to make things happen - e.g., I designed and developed our AI APIs to abstract AI models so we could hire early-stage software engineers at Rely.
What do I mean by Product Software Engineer?
I build products, whatever it takes. Ready to ship and unblock any domain with a broad skill set in front-end, back-end, databases, DevOps, Cloud... Understanding systems allows for contributions across all project aspects. So, that's me!
Dev skills
"Expect PRs from me, not issues."
I have utilized a diverse set of languages, technologies, and products throughout my career. I am not wedded to any tool, as I prioritize solving problems over the technology used.
Frontend
I craft fast and intuitive UIs using React with Next.js as my framework of choice.
Backend
I focus on robust REST APIs and business logic, mostly with Python.
Cloud
I’ve worked with top cloud providers via a $150k NVIDIA partnership.
OS related
I’ve been a Linux user since high school. For many years, my go-to setup was Debian with Vim. Now, I use MacOS with VSCode.
Databases
Working with both relational and non-relational databases is fascinating, especially observing how all the associated services evolve.
Experience
From coding our product MVP without a single client, to shipping code at a HITACHI factory on a Friday night at 11 PM with operators shouting and the tension of having a production line stopped, to forming a top-tier team.
- Building Zolara v1 on NextJS, React, Typescript, Prisma and PostgresSQL. Used by 20% of wasted water treatment plants in Spain.
- Migrate from Django to NextJS + FastAPI.
- Coded Rely feature to enable customers to independently manage the full cycle—from uploading images to deploying AI models directly on production lines.
- Developed and launched Safehs, an AI platform for workplace safety risk prevention - Used in EU Pharma companies.
- Ensure high reliability and uptime (24/7) for production systems across 30+ factories.
- Scale our system to support 2.000.0000 items produced per day.
- Develop and maintain Python REST APIs for AI computer vision models.
- Create and optimize Docker containers for efficient deployment.
- Setup our first data pipeline in GCP( Google Cloud Platform).
- Automate internal processes by developing internal tools with Python.
- Successfully automated several internal processes, increasing efficiency.
- Deploy new products on cloud platforms.
Projects
I just love building software, which has led me to develop various independent projects throughout my career.
What I’m really seeking, however, is a grand mission and challenge where I can focus all my energy and skills. That’s the reason behind creating this portfolio—to find that opportunity.
Plivet - AI veterinary software for busy veterinarians
This project started as a way to gain more exposure to Large Language Models, generative UI, and to try out the latest features from NextJS.
The demo is in Spanish (lo siento), but you can see the Plivet in action, featuring an Attio-inspired command bar and a generative UI implementation. The stack includes React, TypeScript, NextJS, Vercel, OpenAI, Clerk, and Supabase.
Hobbies
Apart from tech, I love sports, especially surfing. I started surfing as a child, and as with everything I love, it became an obsession—just like my passion for technology. I began competing and didn’t stop until I became a two-time Spanish Surfing Champion.
In fact, surfing gave me my first job at the best surf school in Spain. I led the kids’ competition team, sharing my experience and nurturing young talent. This job allowed me to buy my first laptop, so I could code in my room instead of the living room!
